CloudNeg: An autonomous multi issue negotiation system, with preference elicitation component, for trading cloud services

Cloud services provide its users with flexible resource provisioning. But in the current market, a user has to choose from a limited set of configurations at a fixed price. This paper presents an autonomous negotiation system termed CloudNeg for negotiating cloud services. CloudNeg provides buyers and sellers of cloud services with autonomous agents to negotiate on the specifications of a cloud instance, including price, on their behalf. These agents elicit their buyers’ time preferences and use them in negotiations. Further, this paper presents two artifacts: a negotiation algorithm and a prototype which together form CloudNeg

A Study of Interaction, Visual Canvas, and Immersion in AR Design: A DSR Approach

Augmented reality (AR) as an innovative technology has changed the way people use technology for interaction and communication. While researchers have studied the application of AR, research on AR as a communication medium remains scant. In this study, we investigate the effect of AR factors (namely, interaction, visual canvas/cues, and immersion) on AR-mediated communication. We apply design science research (DSR) guidelines to design, develop, and evaluate an AR artifact. We derive the design elements based on interactivity, media naturalness, and immersion theories and develop the AR artifact as a mobile app in an iterative manner. We evaluate the design product through the informed arguments and scenarios method, and the design process by assessing its conformance to DSR principles. We show that AR factors\u27 design elements—interaction (user controls, contextual tasks, and ergonomics), visual canvas/cues (realistic 3D models, visual and audio cues, and aesthetics), and immersion (diverse components)—play a critical role in AR-mediated communication. Furthermore, high-quality product visuals and interactive user controls give users a good AR experience. From a practice perspective, AR app designers may incorporate the design process we used in our study and generate AR experiences that fully exploit AR media’s communication affordance. We contribute to knowledge by using DSR guidelines for designing and developing AR as a communication medium

Algorithmic Personnel Management: A Personnel Slack View

This study delves into the potential influence of Algorithmic Personnel Management (APM)-based systems on optimizing personnel management (PM) processes and their subsequent impact on personnel slack. Employing a multi-case study analysis, we probe the capabilities afforded by APM-based systems, with a keen focus on their potential effects on PM processes, personnel slack, and organizational outcomes. Our exploration intimates the possibility of APM-based systems augmenting talent acquisition, talent management, and performance management processes, aligning employee competencies with organizational opportunities, and fostering adaptability amidst tumultuous business landscapes. Furthermore, the study conjectures the metamorphosis of conventional personnel managerial roles within the APM-based systems context, accentuating the necessity for personnel managers to acclimate to strategic and analytical duties. This research endeavors to enrich the academic discourse on algorithmic personnel management, workforce optimization, and organizational outcomes, proffering pragmatic implications for organizations contemplating APM-based systems implementation and shedding light on prospective trajectories for future inquiries

Understanding the Strategic Value of Big Data Analytics Capability: A Multidimensional Innovation Perspective

    No full text
Despite the phenomenal growth of Big Data Analytics in the last few years, little research is done to explicate the relationship between Big Data Analytics Capability (BDAC) and indirect strategic value derived from such digital capabilities. We attempt to address this gap by proposing a conceptual model of the BDAC - Innovation relationship using dynamic capability theory. The work expands on BDAC business value research and extends the nominal research done on BDAC – innovation. We focus on BDAC\u27s relationship with different innovation objects, namely product, business process, and business model innovation, impacting all value chain activities. The insights gained will stimulate academic and practitioner interest in explicating strategic value generated from BDAC and serve as a framework for future research on the subjec

Intellectual structure of cybersecurity research in enterprise information systems

    No full text
Enterprises aspire for ongoing and effective information systems security. Cybersecurity frameworks ensure the availability, confidentiality, and integrity of information. Inspired by the omnipresent challenges and ever-increasing spending by enterprises, we identify the state of research on cybersecurity in enterprises. We employ citation, co-citation, centrality, and citation-path analysis to uncover its intellectual core. Our study reveals five core themes of cybersecurity research: (a) artificial intelligence in cybersecurity, (b) grids, networks, and platform security, (c) algorithms & methods, (d) optimisation & modelling, and (e) cybersecurity management. We discuss the implications for EIS and opportunities for research in each of these themes
